Vancouver- TAKING PLACE THIS WEEKEND/ THINGS TO DO

Greek Heritage Month had a great start this past Monday May 26th with an illustrated lecture by Prof Hector Williams. Over one hundred attendees enjoyed an interesting presentation on the topic, Greeks of the Nile and Greco Egyptian History. Organizers hope the next two upcoming events taking place this weekend will keep up the same successful momentum. .

The Hellenic Canadian Congress of BC proudly presents a fun filled weekend with two significant events for everyone to enjoy. We hope to see you there

The first event runs May 31st to June 7 at the UBC Chan Centre – Telus Theatre. ‘Socrates On Trial” an exciting theatre production filled with modern twists in a contemporary post 911 age, and where you the audience members get to vote as members of a jury: Is Socrates one of the world’s greatest thinkers or is he a cheater and a fake, corrupting the minds of the young, some of whom will go on to betray their countries at a time of war? Don’t miss out on this show, written by UBC’s own play write Andrew Irvine. Tickets are only $18 & $15 for students and are available at the box office, ticket master or at Omega Travel. Visit www.greekday.com for show times and details.

The second event takes place Sunday June 1st at Downtown Library Square at 1pm. Bring the whole family and let the children enjoy an afternoon learning about Greek mythology in a storytelling and craft session. While they are kept busy learning, laughing and making new friends, peruse the mini Hellas expo kiosks and learn about Greece and Greek products or take in one of the shows. Musical guests will perform acoustic urban beats of Greece and taverna style dancers will entertain the afternoon away. ADMISSION IS FREE and a great way to spend time with the family.
